Westlake Charter School is a K-11th grade public school created by parents and educators in Natomas. We opened our doors in 2005 and continue to grow serving more and more students each year. WCS’s primary mission is to demonstrate what is possible when school and community collaborate to create inspiring adults with the academic and social-emotional readiness to lead as Global Citizens.
Westlake Charter School students are EXPLORERS! Our curriculum focuses on diversity and appreciation of different cultures, while promoting academic excellence and foreign language acquisition. We offer various specialty classes to all of our students including Art, Physical Education, and Spanish. Westlake Charter School has small class sizes of approximately 22 students in K-3rd grade and 28 students in 4th-11th grade. First time visitors to Westlake Charter School often remark, “What a warm and inviting school!” Creating a school that is caring and open is absolutely critical in working successfully with our children and families. Students who feel safe, secure, and appreciated gain a love of learning and will be successful scholars.
Westlake Charter School’s professional staff is relentless in seeking and trying research-based best practices that engage every student. Our lessons are hands-on and differentiated to meet the diverse needs of all students. Our teachers display a never-ending commitment to improving their own expertise. Furthermore, we would not be as successful without the support and involvement of our parents. Our parent group is outstanding in helping us achieve our goals by volunteering their time in class, fundraising for our unique programs, and providing endless words of encouragement and support. Our school team is second to none!

The following language excerpts are from a draft facility use agreement with Westlake Charter School and are subject to approval. The language outlines the interests of both parties regarding the construction of Westlake Charter High School.
"WHEREAS, the District previously agreed to process any future petition for a high school program, which includes assistance with securing facilities, consistent with its procedures as applied to other existing charter schools currently authorized by the District’s Board of Trustees;"
"WHEREAS, the District and Charter School recognize the Charter School has a longer-term interest in construction of a permanent high school facility;"
"WHEREAS, the Charter School has become the owner of a parcel identified as Site C (hereinafter “Site C”), for the purpose of housing a future permanent high school campus. A map of Site C is attached here as “Exhibit C”;"
"The Parties mutually agree Site C will be included in the District’s 2024 Facilities Master Plan (FMP) as the location of a future permanent Westlake Charter High School facility.
If the District chooses to pursue a future local or state bond, the parties agree that should such a bond measure pass, the parties will address any potential District involvement with the site in a subsequent FUA or addendum. The Parties agree it will take a collaborative effort, which may include a phased approach to construction over multiple years and/or bond allocations, to build a facility on Site C.
The Parties further agree that any permanent Westlake Charter High School facility will be constructed in a manner consistent with the provision of facilities for other charter schools currently authorized by the District’s Board of Trustees, taking into consideration bonding capacity, finance climate, growth of the district and prioritization of future district needs.
The Charter School also agrees to actively participate, to the extent allowed by applicable law, in support of the passage of any future local or State school facilities construction/improvement bond pursued and/or supported by the District.
The Charter School understands that if any NUSD funding is used to support the construction of WCHS, the deed to the property, Site C, will be transferred to NUSD and any development of said property will be required to be in compliance with all Division of State Architect (DSA) requirements. Upon receiving the deed to the property, NUSD will hold title to the Property and allocate it to Westlake Charter High School to operate the charter school while authorized to operate in the District."
